Like many other lung cancer symptoms, difficulty breathing associated with lung cancer is difficult to differentiate from the difficulty breathing that can be associated with COPD. As mentioned above, a change in pattern of respiratory difficulty or other general breathing difficulties should cause concern for the development of lung cancer, particularly if you are at high risk for lung cancer.

85% of lung cancer is found symptomatically, which includes difficulty breathing.  Though this could be considered a fairly common symptom, or could be associated with something other than lung cancer, it is important to take note of any changes in breathing patterns, and talk to your physician about them.

The America Cancer Society says that the early detection of cancer is your best defense. Therefore, finding lung cancer before these symptoms appear can be important in extending the survival rate.
