If you were asked what the number one cancer killer among women was, what would you say? How about the number one cancer killer among men? For the majority of adults in the United States, the answer is surprising.

According to a recent study, an astounding 80% of adults are not aware that lung cancer is the number one cancer killer, with only 12% saying that they know about lung cancer symptoms.

Think only heavy smokers get lung cancer? Think again.

We’ve lost many great talents to lung cancer, and the newest are no different. According to The Washington Post, Chad Everett, famously known for his role on the drama “Medical Center,” recently passed away at the age of 75. Additionally, The Huffington Post recently posted an article stating that Sherman Hemsley, the 74-year-old actor best known for his role as George Jefferson on "The Jeffersons," passed away last month because of a complication of lung cancer.

When compared to other cancers, lung cancer is seemingly unknown. It is often associated with smoking and considered to be very deadly, but few people know anything further than that about the disease.

Despite the stark reality from the statistics surrounding lung cancer, it is important to remember one thing— There is hope, for people do survive this disease.
